What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health profession that focuses on healing the body from the inside out. By making sure the skeleton is properly aligned, it allows the rest of the body to operate as it was meant to. Chiropractic involves small, manual adjustments to skeletal, and primarily spinal, positioning. This puts the body in the optimal position to move freely.

History of Chiropractic

Daniel Palmer of Iowa is credited with the invention of chiropractic, but manual healing methods can be found even in ancient civilizations. Palmer had a vast knowledge of anatomy and theorized that minor adjustments to the spine could have a positive impact throughout the body. He also founded the first chiropractic school, where adjusting techniques were studied and improved. Chiropractic licensing was soon implemented and became federally acknowledged. Things did not go smoothly though, the AMA fiercely opposed chiropractic, spreading propaganda and banning medical doctors from cooperating with chiropractors. Eventually a lawsuit was filed and the judge ruled that the AMA was wrong in its effort to discredit chiropractic. Since then, chiropractic has continued to grow and public perception has improved. Despite all the backlash it has received, chiropractic has survived for one simple reason; it works. Patients who have tried everything find that their condition improves through chiropractic. Regular adjustments keep people moving and pain-free.
